Happy 2022, co-op fam!
It’s our first blog post of the new year, and we’re happy to be back. We hope you had a safe and enjoyable New Years Eve and Day alike, and that 2022 has treated you kindly so far.
With the new year comes new goals, new resolutions, and one of the most popular one of all? Eating healthier. For some, that means introducing more produce into their lives. For others, that could mean bulking up. And for many, that could be starting to pursue a gluten free diet.
Now I’ll be honest, I’m not gluten free myself, but my grandmother and sibling both of have Celiac disease, so I’m always on the look out for new and better foods they can enjoy.
While I know many of you are still recovering from the season of pie, I’m definitely a dessert person myself, and like to have my options open for me throughout the year.
First up is our cookies from Pamela’s. We have both their Lemon and Pecan Shortbread in stock, two classics that you can’t go wrong with.
Another cookie option is our Swedish style Ginger Snaps from MI-DEL. These non-gmo verified treats from MI-DEL’s peanut free facility are a nostalgic favorite, and can be enjoyed all year around.
If you happen to be vegan as well, check out our new cookies from Siete. With both Mexican Chocolate and Wedding in stock, these popular Mexican-American snacks have been selling out fast (if you’re a chocolate lover, hurry in quick: there’s only one bag left!)
If you prefer baking over the packaged stuff, we got you covered there, too. Bob’s Red Mill has a number of gluten free mixes, from their pizza crust to their cornbread to their classic chocolate brownie.
While some might complain about gluten free being a “trend,” my grandmother is actually grateful for this diet’s newfound popularity. Before, there were very little options for her. Being gluten free wasn’t “in,” which meant most gluten free options (what little were available) tasted like stale cardboard. But now that more and more people are recognizing the health benefits of a gluten free lifestyle, grocery shopping has become much easier, and she has a plethora of gluten free options to choose from that are actually good!
So dig in, friends. No matter what your goals are for 2022, we here at Mountain Avenue Market are rooting for you!
